Replacement of a garbage disposal is an easy and quick task for an experienced installer. There are things you should keep in mind when swapping out your garbage disposal:
- Make sure the size of your new disposal is the same size as your old one. If the new one is larger or smaller, the pipes may not fit into the new disposal, and you will need to have the piping cut down or extended which places the job out of the scope of a replacement into a new install. You will need to have a certified plumber come out and extend or cut your pipes
- Test your dishwasher before the technician leaves! Sometimes it is easy for any installer to miss the plug in the opening that extends to your dishwasher. This is because the plug is buried inside of the disposal and is not directly visible. If this plug is not removed, your dishwasher will not drain
- Newer garbage disposals may require a different type of voltage or electrical outlet. In this case, you will need a certified electrician to run the new outlet for you
If you keep the above in mind, your replacement should go without hitch!
